Scope and Contents
This collection consists of two letters from the Jefferson County Genealogical Library addressed to Peter Wilson, one page of lined paper that lists the names and locations of genealogical research, four short correspondences from Alfred Megrail from various dates, and one journal of Alfred Megrail dated 1860. The items in this collection range from 1860 to 1984.

Biographical / Historical
Alfred Megrail was born in Jefferson County, Ohio on January 9, 1824 to James W. Megrail and Mary Earnshaw. He married his wife, Amy Hammond, on September 2, 1847 in Wayne Township, Ohio. After Amy’s death on April 7, 1854, Alfred married Rebecca Gilbert on December 4, 1857. Between his two marriages, Alfred had three children, Mary, George, and Amy. Alfred Megrail passed away on December 14, 1862 in Bloomingdale, Ohio.
