Research Medical Hospital, located in Kansas City, Missouri, began operation in 1886 and was originally named German Hospital after the German immigrants who founded the facility. In 1905, the Research School of Nursing was established in a building close to the main hospital. By 1918, anti-German public sentiment coupled with a research driven hospital brought a name change to Research Hospital. Throughout the remainder of the 20th century, Research Hospital continued to expand not only patient services but its’ research capabilities. Today this hospital serves a 150 mile radius around the Kansas City area.
