Lorraine Hopkins Owens Collection
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of genealogy charts, land grants, photographs, correspondence, wills, newspaper articles, autobiographies, family newsletters, military records, and artifacts related to the Lawson, Newman, Owens, Rabb, and Plummer families. These items relate to the personal lives of individual family members, their businesses and community involvement, as well as their families’ contributions to Texas history. This collection forms a history of family connections, memories, and achievements dating back to the 1770s.

Biographical / Historical
Lorraine Hopkins married George Erwin Owens. The family lived in Jackson County, Missouri. Lorraine is the daughter of Lucille Lillian Newman. The Newman family lived in Texas for several generations and were among the early settlers of Texas. Prentice A. Newman contributed to early aviation history by building the first single winged plane. The Lawson family came to Texas from Mississippi in the 1880s where Lucy Lawson married Malcolm Arthur Newman. Other families are related to the Newman and Lawson families through marriage.
