Lone Jack, Missouri History Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains Lone Jack, Missouri history collected by Irene Spainhour. This collection was donated by the family to the Lone Jack branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library. Contained within the collection are scrapbooks, local histories, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and other ephemera. Also found within the collection are materials for genealogy research such as Jackson County, Missouri marriages and family stories from Lone Jack residents. These materials cover the settling of Lone Jack to current events. Many items within the collection pertain to local clubs and the Battle of Lone Jack.

Biographical / Historical
Mildred Irene Cooper was born December 9, 1918 in Owensville, Missouri. Her parents, Ira and Mary Cooper, had five children total; an elder daughter, two younger sons, and one younger daughter. By 1930, the Cooper family had moved to Cass County, Missouri where Ira worked as a painter. After attending high school, Irene worked as a maid in Cass County. She married Raymond Spainhour on June 5, 1948 and soon after the couple moved to Lone Jack, Missouri. Irene and Raymond had one daughter. Irene was very active in local history organizations as well as local community clubs and the Lone Jack Baptist Church. Raymond died on September 17, 1990 and Irene died on January 25, 2007.
