Scope and Contents

This collection consists of photographic slides taken by George Acree. The materials date from 1951-1962, but the majority are undated. The images are mostly scenes, locations, and events in the Kansas City, Missouri, area. Some events include the American Royal Parade, Jaycees parade, and Margaret Truman’s wedding. Materials are arranged in alphabetical order.

Biographical / Historical

George B. Acree, Jr., was born on February 9, 1902, in Virden, Illinois, to George B. Sr., and Tabith (Taylor) Acree. As a small child, the family moved to Linn County, Missouri. Mr. Acree married Alice Blackburn in Jackson County, Missouri on May 15, 1926. After becoming ordained in 1937, Mr. Acree pastored at churches in Milford, Nebraska, and Sedalia, Missouri. He later founded the Bennington Assembly of God Church in Kansas City, Missouri, and Bethany Assembly of God Church in Kansas City, Kansas. In addition to pastoring, Mr. Acree was a civil engineer for Howard-Needles-Tammen & Bergendoff and was a registered civil engineer in Missouri, Ohio, and West Virginia. Mr. Acree was also a member of the Kansas City Engineers Club, American Railway Engineers Association, and American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Acree died in May, 1976.
