Scope and Contents

This collection contains information related to the Independence Neighborhood Council No. 15, which corresponds with the McCoy Neighborhood in Independence, Missouri. This includes magazines about Independence Neighborhood Councils, as well as issues of “The Real McCoy”, a newsletter about the McCoy Neighborhood, bumper stickers and other promotional materials, and photographs of various events. Most photographs in the collection are from events in the neighborhood from 2011-2014, though there are a few photographs from the 1980s. There is also a good deal of information related to an annual chili cook-off event held in the neighborhood. Many of the items in the collection also relate to the Heritage House, an apartment complex for seniors, including emails and a newsletter called “The Informer”. There are some materials related to politics and politicians in Independence from the 1980s. The collection also contains a scrapbook with materials related to different events in the neighborhood, including the placement of the Historical Marker for Independence’s historic Neck neighborhood.
